We’re happy to introduce four new brands for spring/summer 2018: Toujours, PRAS, Merz b. Schwanen, and Malibu Sandals. We carefully selected each brand for their unique design and superior craftsmanship. These brands deliver beautiful pieces that we think you’ll love! Here’s some insights into the four new brands and why we selected them for our store.
Firstly, Toujours, meaning ‘daily’ in French, is designed and produced in Japan by Masaya Shimeno. The brand aims to produce everyday wear using carefully selected and natural materials. The garments produced are poetic with an edge, and feature distinctive cuts, silhouettes and fabrics. Below are some images from their SS18 collection look book.
We discovered this brand in Paris and had to stock the collection after feeling the beautiful fabrics and seeing the unique shapes. Toujours will be available in store and online soon.
Another new brand crafted in Japan is PRAS, ‘Paradise Rubber Athletics Shoes’, designed by Tanushi Tomoki. The sneakers are manufactured in the same way as wartime US Navy footwear with a vulcanised rubber sole - originally developed for extra traction on slippery ship decks. There are only two factories in Japan which are still able to make the vulcanised sole on these sneakers which makes them so unique. These sneakers combine comfort with traditional, superior craftsmanship.
These wearable sneakers don’t compromise on comfort and they are a cooler alternative to Converse. They come in four colour ways and you can shop the above styles in store and online here. The fourth colour way is coming soon.
Merz b. Schwanen is the ultimate collection of basics. When we viewed the collection in Paris, we knew straight away we needed to stock this collection. We pride ourselves on our selection of timeless, functional clothing and this collection fits our ethos perfectly. The brand believes in the best materials, expert craftsmanship, and unique aesthetics. They say ‘some styles and colours come and go. These classics are here to stay' and we fully agree.
Their traditional manufacturing process takes place in the Swabian Alps. The fascinating images above show the rich history of the brand whose factory dates back to 1911. After years of abandonment, the machines were restored, and then developed the brands first collection which was presented in 2011. The collections are manufactured with experience and passion in a family-owned business and the quality is undeniable – clearly a labour of love. You can get your hands on these basics soon!
Finally, Malibu are a 100% cruelty free footwear brand from LA. Their mission is to create comfortable, stylish and modern sandals. Each pair are inspired by the ancient craft of Mexican huarache footwear, re-imagined with updated engineering techniques using cruelty-free vegan materials. Below are some of the styles we have available.
If you struggle to find sandals comfortable enough for everyday wear, Malibu have you covered. Each sandal features a three part sole for extra support, comfort and durability. The brand outlines the 5 key features:
1. Brace Bar provides your toes with a raised rail for ideal gripping action and custom fit.
2. Heightened Edging is consistent from front to back and along the medial and lateral sidewalls. The elevated edge acts as a guardrail providing extra toe protection.
3. Sculpted Arch Support creates stable reinforcement for your foot that feels secure in the footbed.
4. Caldera Heel has a deep basin to give your heel ultimate comfort and secure footing.
5. Signature M-Grip Sole is made of durable rubber and molded with our signature M-Grip pattern for excellent traction.
We couldn't say no to these sandals when Lisa found the brand in New York! Pair them with an outfit from Engineered Garments for that cool, understated LA look.
